In the video you've shared above, they mention being without fear and without desire.
Aren't fears and desires relative? The desire to become more spiritual can also be ego driven.
In the video the example is lust but men have lust for great things.(?)
Fear is learned and can change with time. What used to scare you may not anymore but there's always something, it would seem.
Could they possibly mean to try and control or tame these natural experiences?
Or is it literal?
Yes we have seen many people with ego driven spiritual desires and people with lusts for great things. We come to realize that we bring our material desires and lusts with us into our spiritual lives. Our past propensities are not immediately uprooted from our higher aspirations.
The question i ask myself is this; Do those great things amount to that in God's eyes? Do these ego driven desires seem spiritual in God's eyes? Natural experiences and super natural experiences are two different things. Some seek natural experiences others supernatural and then their all the grades between. Obviously not all natural experiences are detrimental to our spirituality. This is where discrimination becomes important.
What is real or literal depends on our state of consciousness. We have made a literal translation of our 😱 fears. A Sri Yukteswar plays with a deadly cobra like a pet and he has done this. My state of consciousness still would interpret a cobra quite literally. Until I can see life through the exalted state that he is in it is well that I recognize the danger of duality and for instance the danger of a cobra or a healthy fear of what may harm myself and my loved ones.
