I believe it is from AoY where Yogananda references a teacher who has his students ponder on words for hours at a time. They'd read a little bit and then meditate. Reading everything in one sitting, going to fast, it takes away from meaning, the internalization of truth and the passion/desire for God. Inayat Khan says that simply studying books and having the knowledge isn't enough, that one should feel and take a personal interest in order to Learn and Grow closer with their ideal.
Apart from having a few helpful Christian friends I think this was my best experience with Christianity. The people at the meditation service were communing with spirit while meditating on the depth and meaning of the words. Yea you are right Eric. A key phrase meditated on can bring a sudden awakening... I have had it happen to me in the past. Like a zen koan.
