i have found that yes,  compassion arises from suffering.

pain.....is also put in it's place for learning / realization purposes / bringing us closer to god.....i believe.  when i encounter pain and suffering.....it is usually god i call to, for help. 

is this not why we incarnate into body ??  in order to get closer to god again ?  ( for most of us it is the main 'reason'  , or a large part of the reason )
