Jesus was probably silent because maybe he didn't know what kind of answer was expected, as there are literally many ways to answer that question and would likely take a while to explain, and he probably also knew Pilot wouldn't get it anyway, and also he knew whatever answer he gave wouldn't be accepted anyhow, so why bother.

We all have certain spiritual lessons to learn in life and one of mine is to know when and how to say things that I believe to be true without being misinterpreted and offended by my presentation.
