Animals are precious. They’re souls are evolving into humans. They need our love and not for us to take their lives. I look into the eyes of people who eat meat on a regular basis. There eyes become darker and glassy looking. They lose the sparkle and vibrant life in their eyes.

Summary
Half of the world’s habitable land is used for agriculture, with most of this used to raise livestock for dairy and meat. Livestock are fed from two sources – lands on which the animals graze and land on which feeding crops, such as soy and cereals, are grown. How much would our agricultural land use decline if the world adopted a plant-based diet?

Research suggests that if everyone shifted to a plant-based diet, we would reduce global land use for agriculture by 75%. This large reduction of agricultural land use would be possible thanks to a reduction in land used for grazing and a smaller need for land to grow crops. The research also shows that cutting out beef and dairy (by substituting chicken, eggs, fish, or plant-based food) has a much larger impact than eliminating chicken or fish.

The expansion of land for agriculture is the leading driver of deforestation and biodiversity loss.

Half of the world’s ice- and desert-free land is used for agriculture. Most of this is for raising livestock – the land requirements of meat and dairy production are equivalent to an area the size of the Americas, spanning all the way from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego.

The land use of livestock is so large because it takes around 100 times as much land to produce a kilocalorie of beef or lamb versus plant-based alternatives. This is shown in the chart.1  The same is also true for protein – it takes almost 100 times as much land to produce a gram of protein from beef or lamb, versus peas or tofu.

Of course, the type of land used to raise cows or sheep is not the same as cropland for cereals, potatoes, or beans. Livestock can be raised on pasture grasslands or on steep hills where it is not possible to grow crops. Two-thirds of pastures are unsuitable for growing crops.2

This raises the question of whether we could, or should, stop using it for agriculture at all. We could let natural vegetation and ecosystems return to these lands, which would have large benefits for biodiversity and carbon sequestration.3 In an upcoming article we will look at the carbon opportunity costs of using land for agriculture.

One concern is whether we would be able to grow enough food for everyone on the cropland that is left. The research suggests that it’s possible to feed everyone in the world a nutritious diet on existing croplands, but only if we see a widespread shift towards plant-based diets.

The above is interesting, but I'm afraid it's not realistic. Everyone vegetarian? Non-vegetarian people would see that as an untolerable infringement to their own free will.

Free will without responsibility is license. Those who continue with a meat eating diet are the only ruining there own health and are adding challenging karma to their soul. I am using license in this context;

freedom to behave as one wishes, especially in a way that results in excessive or unacceptable behavior:
"the government was criticized for giving the army too much license"
(a license to do something)
a reason or excuse to do something wrong or excessive:
"you do not have a license to break traffic laws"

Steve, I can put myself in your shoes, but then next life you'll have to become the POTUS and issue an executive order to ban meat in the USA. If Mr. Trump will have conquered CAnada, Mexico, Panama and Greenland, then  you'll have the opportunity to ban meat in all these wide territories, the largest state in the world, compliments of Mr. Trump!

That is simply hilarious and yes for natures sake, humanity’s sake and the natural evolution of animals upward I would most likely attempt it in a higher age…. If given the opportunity. Although even then there would most likely be some exceptions to the rule.

Vegetables and fruit are food with undisputable scientific evidence for health. Of course, a diet should include adequate and diversified nutrients, but a base of vegetables and fruit is the best protection against many illnesses

My health has been good and much better ever since i became a total vegetatian at about 20 years old. So in my case i have found that all 'deversified nutrients' can be found with out murdering any animals; our soul brothers and sisters. The only health issues I’ve had since being a vegetarian were related to something quite different than being a vegetarian. They were due to being in too much sunlight all my life. Which can also be seen has something that right wing politicians are responsible for since their continuing to ignore the use of fossil fuels as putting a burden on Mother Earth.

Actually, Steve, fossil fuels contribute to the CO2 burden and particles, which is supposed to filter damaging UV rays. Warmer air does not mean more intense sun radiation.

'More diversified nutrients', explanation= Any dietary regime, vegan, vegetarian, omnivore, carnivore, may be deficient in some nutrients. So, a diet based solely on fruit, like the fruitarians do, can be very, very unhealthy after a short while. Fruit and vegetables are not enough. Fruit, vegetables, nuts, legumes, cereals, start being ore diversified. Adding something more ntrient like Tofu, soy protein, dairy products, may be very advantageous to health.

Fruit and vegetables alone are not enough. That's why the lessons insist on a diversified vegetarian diet with many nutrients. They do not recommend meat nor fish though.

Again on fossil fuels, the Gemini AI sums it up nicely.

Quote
Yes, fossil fuels significantly contribute to increased atmospheric particles, and these particles can influence solar radiation. Here's a breakdown:

Particle Emissions:

Burning fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and natural gas, releases various particles into the atmosphere. These include:
Sulfate aerosols
Black carbon (soot)
Other particulate matter
These particles are collectively known as aerosols.
Effects on Solar Radiation:

Reflecting Sunlight: Some aerosols, particularly sulfate aerosols, have a cooling effect. They can reflect incoming sunlight back into space, thus reducing the amount of solar radiation that reaches the Earth's surface.
Affecting Clouds: Aerosols can also influence cloud formation. They can act as cloud condensation nuclei, which can alter cloud properties, such as their reflectivity and lifespan. This can also affect how much solar radiation reaches the earth.
Black Carbon's Role: Conversely, black carbon absorbs sunlight, which can have a warming effect. When black carbon settles on snow and ice, it reduces their reflectivity, leading to increased absorption of solar radiation and accelerated melting.
Net Effect:

While some aerosols have a cooling effect, the overall impact of fossil fuel combustion is a warming of the planet due to the release of greenhouse gases, primarily carbon dioxide.
The cooling effect of aerosols is relatively short-lived compared to the long-lasting warming effect of greenhouse gases.
In essence, fossil fuels do contribute to increased atmospheric particles, which can have localized and temporary effects on solar radiation.

However, the dominant and long-term effect of fossil fuel combustion is global warming due to the release of greenhouse gases.

Which can also be seen has something that right wing politicians are responsible for since they continue to ignore the use of fossil fuels as putting a burden on Mother Earth. And this burden they are responsible for has caused and increase in skin cancer and cataracts on the population of the planet. Not to even begin to mention it’s deplorable melting of the glaciers, earthquakes, and damaging weather changes on the earth surface. These are major karmic issues for conservative right wing politicians who continue to destroy Mother Earth. In the face of these realities facing human beings, threatening Mother Earth and all of the creatures living on earth today.

The Connection between Ozone Layer Depletion and UVB Radiation

Reduced ozone levels as a result of ozone depletion means less protection from the sun’s rays and more exposure to UVB radiation at the Earth’s surface. Studies have shown that in the Antarctic, the amount of UVB measured at the surface can double during the annual ozone hole.

Effects on Human Health

Ozone layer depletion increases the amount of UVB that reaches the Earth’s surface. Laboratory and epidemiological studies demonstrate that UVB causes non-melanoma skin cancer and plays a major role in malignant melanoma development. Of the human health effects from sun exposure, melanoma is the most lethal, causing nearly 7,000 deaths annually in the United States. In addition, UVB has been linked to the development of cataracts, a clouding of the eye’s lens.

Steve, but.... You originally have spoken about fossil fuels, not the specific chemicals called ODS (ozone depleting substances), which are different from the fuels which the Trump administration would like to extract.
Fossil fuels seem to have an impact, but secondary. the ozone layer issue deserves a dedicated thread probably. Too late for me to start searching. It may even be reconstituting itself now.

Quote
t's important to distinguish between the direct causes of ozone depletion and the broader impacts of fossil fuel combustion. Here's a breakdown:

Ozone-Depleting Substances (ODS):
The primary cause of ozone layer depletion is the release of man-made chemicals, specifically ozone-depleting substances (ODS). These include:
Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs)
Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs)
Halons
These substances release chlorine and bromine atoms in the stratosphere, which then catalyze the destruction of ozone molecules.

Fossil Fuels and Related Emissions:
While fossil fuels themselves don't directly release the primary ODS like CFCs, their combustion does contribute to atmospheric changes that have complex interactions with the ozone layer.
Burning fossil fuels releases various pollutants, including:
Nitrogen oxides (NOx)
These can have some influence on stratospheric ozone chemistry.
Greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide. These gases contribute to climate change, which in turn can affect stratospheric temperatures and circulation, indirectly influencing ozone levels.
Therefore, fossil fuel combustion has indirect effects on the ozone layer, primarily through its contribution to climate change.
Key takeaway:
The direct and most potent cause of ozone depletion is ODS, which were historically used in various industrial and consumer applications.
Fossil fuels main impact is on climate change, which then has a secondary impact on the ozone layer.
