South Korean lawmakers said Wednesday that 3,000 North Korean troops were believed to be in Russia, a number double the estimate the South Korean Intelligence Service said it identified last week. The spy agency said it worked with Ukraine's spies and used facial recognition technology and artificial intelligence to track North Korean military officers in Russia.

The morale for the troops in Ukrainians has not been boosted by such news, they are few, and the enemy has at this point almost unlimited reserves.

Let's see if Mr. Trump will be able to stop the war in Ukraine. That's one of his promises during his campaign, that he would have tried hard, with an undisclosed strategy.

Maybe he's going to pull some strings with his former buddy Mr. Putin.

I fully agree with Steve on the strategic and moral meaning of this war, but the attrition is huge on the Ukrainians, the sanctions didn't do much to deter the Russians and the economic toll is becoming all but unbearable for the Western countries.

Besides, a peace agreement would not mean a victory for the Russians. Even though they would tout it as such.

Thanks for putting it in writing mccoy. It took Biden’s blunders to finally get us out of Afghanistan after Trump never fulfilled that promise. It remains to be seen what shape Trump will leave a free seeking nation like Ukraine with, which has the will to fight for democracy. It appears that no one else has the will to stop the evil intentions of communist forces and the power hungry force of dictatorship expressed in the likes of Putin.

Steve, the Biden administration did commit some tiny blunders over there in Afghanistan, that might have contributed to Putin's invasion. Clearly, a flaw of Trump's administration was to reopen negotiations with the Talebans. but his mandate was interrupted, so we cannot say what would have happened.

I think that the shape of Ukraine clearly cannot be the shape it was at the beginning of the invasion. There will be hopefully some negotiations in which Mr Putin can be given something so that he can show his nation, in the usual aberrant ways the Russian government does, that they have won.

On the other hand, if such negotiations really happen, Mr. Zelenski will not be happy with the compromise. But he will have made a huge contribution to a historical stand against an evil aggressor, hopefully a deterrent to other would-be invaders in the world. And the destruction of his country will end it is hoped.

Anyhow, the orchestra directors will be the Trump administration and its consultants.

I think that, rather than no one else is willing to stop the tyrant, no one else has the capacity to do that, excluding a dangerous extended conflict with a nuclear hazard. In other words, Europe and UK may send troops and fight aircraft and bombers and more, but this could trigger some far more dangerous conflict. We are speaking of a 3rd world war which doesn't sound much fun.

North Korea is benefiting from its troops fighting alongside Russia against Ukraine, gaining experience that makes Pyongyang “more capable of waging war against its neighbours” a senior US official has warned.
Russia has forged closer diplomatic and military ties with North Korea since Moscow’s full invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

More than 12,000 North Korean troops are in Russia and last month began fighting against Ukrainian forces in Russia’s Kursk region, Dorothy Camille Shea, the deputy US ambassador to the UN, told the UN security council.
North Korea “is significantly benefiting from receiving Russian military equipment, technology and experience, rendering it more capable of waging war against its neighbours”, Shea told the 15-member council, which met over what Pyongyang said was a test of a new intermediate-range hypersonic ballistic missile on Monday.
“In turn, the DPRK will likely be eager to leverage these improvements to promote weapons sales and military training contracts globally,” she said, using the acronym for North Korea’s formal name, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

North Korea’s UN ambassador, Kim Song, justified Monday’s missile test as part of a plan to enhance the country’s defence capabilities. He accused the US of double standards.
“When the civilian death toll exceeded 45,000 in Gaza, United States embellished Israel’s nefarious mass killing atrocity as the right to self-defence … Meanwhile, it takes issue with legitimate exercise of the right to self-defence of the DPRK,” Kim told the security council.
