When i was an adolescent i had a friend whose name was Dan and i would spend quite a lot of time together with him. He seemed kinda of a loner but we had some good times together. He always seemed to have this anger in him. i somehow felt a compassion about it.
Perhaps it is because at some level we all have a little anger in us. i lost track of him and later found out he had blown his head off with a rifle in the basement of his house.

Charlene was a very good friend when i was about 20 or 21 years old. i stayed with her for months at a time and we went to concerts, meditated together and she came to see me perform music quite often. She was a nurse at a young age. i remember her telling me about her glimpses into a past life. She remembered being in the coloseums in Rome during the Roman Empire and watching the Christians being murdered for entertainment. i asked her how she felt about these recollections. She said 'hopeless' because she did not feel as though she could do anything about it. After a few years i lost touch with her and was trying to reach her. A mutual aqaintance said she had taken her life.

In my early 20's Paul used to come into the nite clubs where i played. One of the managers asked me to have him leave. i asked the manager why and asked him how i could control who came to see me or came to the restaurant? He said that 'we can not have people preaching the Gospel in the club. It did not seem like my responsibility to tell him to do anything. Well Paul was always talking about the Gospel. Faced with this moral dilemma; i invited him to spend time with me away from the nite club/restaurant where we could talk about his favorite subject. We spent long hours talking about the Bible. i was performing on the road as was the case with Charlene also so i did not get a chance to see friends back in those cities. Several years later i saw a friend who knew Paul and asked where he was so i could contact him as i wanted to contact Charlene. The friend told me that he had taken his own life.

i will continue this thread with observations on patterns in peoples lives....

i was swimming in Indiana at the a beach just north of the Indiana State Dunes. There was quite a rip tide that day and an undertow. Suddenly a woman in Indian dress shouted to me: Would you help me? i said yes. She told me that her son was drowning. i saw where he was in the water and swam out to him. He was rather heavy and hung on to my back. i did not know if i was going to make it back in finally after struggling we found footing on the ground. As i gasped for air another young woman came out and led the boy back into shore. When i got back to shore the woman who almost lost her son said that her husband was out in the water also. i never found him. The next day i saw in the paper that a woman had saved a boys life. i smiled to myself. The husband had died trying to save the boy.

i was practicing music with a couple guys north of Grand Rapids. It was quite a drive and i sometimes would become weary over driving the 131 route. It seemed unusual to think that i could somehow forge my way thru the Manisttee forest, that snowy cold January day, but even though it was snowing quite abit and the weather was not letting up, it was as if someone dropped a note in my head. i am going to take a different route today. Well the truth be known i was lost in a huge forest driving what seemed to me to be aimless. i at last saw another vehicle. It was a postal truck. i thought to myself he can tell me how to get out of here. Following him i saw a figure in the middle of the road that he swirved around. It looked like a man sitting on a can fishing: In the middle of the road!

i stopped and asked him if he would like to go somewhere. He said 'anywhere'. i found out that he had frostbite in his feet and he thought he was going to die right there. i found my way out by backtracking and we went to my bandmates  Johns' place. He was willing to have him there for as long as he needed. The man explained to me that he lived a 'good life' and was a computer designer for a company. One day the police came to his house and told him that his daughter, his wife and mother were driving together and were hit by a drunk driver as he crossed over into their lane. All three died of injuries. He said there was no more reason for him to live. i asked him where was he going he said that before being married he always had this dream of being a minister. But where was he walking in the middle of the winter? He said that he was going to Canada and he knew an indian tribe there where he could start his church. i fed him for a couple of days and washed and dried his clothes. After a couple of days he said he was leaving. i asked where? He said Canada. i said: In the middle of the winter? He said yea and that God had taken care of him before even by having animals sleep with him in the cold.
Then over my protest he walked off into the snow.

i continued performing and practicing with John who helped the man that was in the middle of the road freezing until John died of cancer 6 months later. i then practiced with an international touring band. We got ready to go on the road and the Lead guitarist died of cancer (he smoked all the time) in a months time when we were getting ready to go on the road.

Lastly about a week ago i was driving a truck and a man was in the middle of the freeway. A car dodged him and he came towards the path of my truck. i swirved and parked on the side of the road. He came up to my door and i told him to get in the truck. He told me i had saved his life and wondered who i was. But i thought to myself. "Why me?" i would not have had to have anything to do with it if he hadn't been in the middle of the road. i tried to ask him where he was going but he was incoherant and seemed to be on some kind of withdrawal. It is against our companys rules to have passengers in the truck without permission so i called the police for help. He tried to jump out of the truck when i was driving. When the police came he had run toward the forest besides the freeway and they had not found him before i left.

So what do all these occurances mean? These are only a few that have happened to me that were rather dramatic. i believe that we as human beings have come to this life to fulfill a divine purpose. When i was younger i was not aware of some of the things that happened around me and why. Now it is becoming more and more apparent that there will be people in my life who need help and that is my true calling to help those people when they are going thru life changes. I often think of these people and where they are now. i still pray for them.

No doubt you to have 'a calling'. For some of you i see it rather clearly. If you have not already found it: Try to recognize it and pray that it will be shown to you before your life passes you by....
