I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I thought this meant upping my iodine intake. It turns out, upping your iodine intake is not necessarily the way to go about balancing thyroid function. Because I'd rather not take the synthroid I am going to try alternative means found in nature. Upon further research I have discovered that my thyroid function falls in normal range- but that my T3 and T4 are in ranges that indicate hypothryoid.
I have looked around and it seems balancing Selenium and Cortisol functions are healthy ways to restore proper thryoid levels.
An amazingly nutritous and vegan option for selenium is the brazil nut. A word of caution however, eating too many can be toxic. One brazil nut a day will suffice with selenium intake.
Here are a few of its health benefits...
1) Packed with nutrients
2) Rich in selenium
3) Supports thyroid function
4) Good for your heart
5) Ellagic acid may have anti-depressent effects on the brain
