Seems in my life I have always been blessed by having people, places, conditions and times that have helped me understand how to have meditation sessions that are productive. I say this because I have met many people in life who say they are too restless to meditate or explain meditation as going fishing or playing golf as examples of meditation. I also qualify my statement here by saying I have been in many situations where meditation is difficult so I have learned to avoid those situations that make it difficult.

First though I want to post this commentary by Hazrat Khan because meditation is the most important way of finding happiness. But without a definition of happiness someone can feel temporarily happy only two find later they were deceived in their temporary state of ‘pleasurable activity’.

Commentary by Hazrat Inayat Khan:

Man seeks happiness in pleasure, in joy, but these are only shadows of happiness. The real happiness is in the heart of man. But man does not look for it. In order to find happiness, he seeks pleasure. Anything that is passing and anything that results in unhappiness is not happiness.

   from  https://wahiduddin.net/mv2/VI/VI_3.htm

In reality very few in this world know what happiness means. Pleasure is the shadow of happiness, for pleasure depends upon things outside ourselves; happiness comes from within ourselves. Happiness belongs to the heart quality; pleasure to the outer world. The distance between pleasure and happiness is as vast as that between earth and heaven. As long as the heart is not tuned to its proper pitch one will not be happy. That inner smile which shows itself in a man's expression, in his atmosphere, that belongs to happiness. If position were taken away and wealth were lost in the outer life, that inner happiness would not be taken away. And the smiling of the heart depends upon the tuning of the heart, the heart must be tuned to that pitch where it is living.

   from  https://wahiduddin.net/mv2/VIIIa/VIIIa_4_4.htm

There are a thousand excuses for unhappiness that the reasoning mind will make. But is even one of these excuses ever entirely correct? Do you think that if these people gained their desires they would be happy? If they possessed all, would that suffice? No, they would still find some excuse for unhappiness; all these excuses are only like covers over a man's eyes, for deep within is the yearning for the true happiness which none of these things can give. He who is really happy is happy everywhere, in a palace or in a cottage, in riches or in poverty, for he has discovered the fountain of happiness which is situated in his own heart. As long as a person has not found that fountain, nothing will give him real happiness.

   from  https://wahiduddin.net/mv2/VI/VI_1.htm

If there is any source from where one can get the direction on how to act in life, it is to be found in one's heart. The exercises of the Sufi help to get to the source where one can get the direction, the right direction, where there is a spark of the Spirit of Guidance. Those who care to be guided by the spirit, they are always guided, but those who know not whether such a spirit exists or does not exist, they wander through life as a wild horse in the woods, not knowing where it goes, why it runs, why it stands. It is a great pity to be thirsty and remain thirsty when the spring of fresh water is within one's reach. There can be no loss so great in life as having the spark glittering in one's heart and yet groping in the darkness through life.

   ~~~ "Sangatha II, Saluk: The Good Nature", by Hazrat Inayat Khan (unpublished)
In point of fact, whatever one makes of oneself, one becomes that. The source of happiness or unhappiness is all in man himself. When he is unaware of this, he is not able to arrange his life, but as he becomes more acquainted with this secret, he gains mastery, and the process by which this mastery is attained is the only fulfillment of the purpose of this life.
   from  https://wahiduddin.net/mv2/X/X_3_4.htm
   ~~~ There is no source of happiness other than that in the heart of man.

The last statement that Khan makes here is that;

“There is no source of happiness other than that in the heart of man.”

If that is so how does one find the heart of man?

For me the answer to how that happiness can be found, is through meditation and the conditions that are conducive to meditation.

This includes;

People
Proper meditation techniques
Circumstances
Attitudes
Conditions and
Environment that are conducive to meditation

It all works differently for different people, for me it can be the way to contemplate things, I may not need to take an official meditation pose to do so, simply because thoughts come all the time, so I want to contemplate immediately. I could be working, driving, etc so practicing official meditation by sitting and doing the pose helped understand how to focus thoughts in other situations. Unfortunately for me I have work, hobbies, family, house, bills, so I had to learn how to meditate in the real distracting moving world.

Even when I had four jobs or was on the road for a week at a time driving a truck I still found a rest area to meditate in or would meditate in my van or car in the worst weather conditions. If the attitude is that my main priority in life is God, Guru and enlightenment the way will open. Divine sources will open the way….

People will come into your life. Sites, information, books, people and conditions that are helpful will suddenly appear. If you are searching for the truth and love you will get help.

 Malachi 3:10 10  Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it."

The point is there is more than one way to accomplish the same goal with the same end result.

No doubt you will know my response to that;

There is also more than one way to get to Rome. The question being; Will we walk, crawl, run, take a boat or fly? And at some time we will ask the same question about going to Mars. I mean you could spend your whole life getting there. Similarly do we we want to take the bullock cart  route to enlightenment or the jet route?

Paramahansa Yogananda has stated that it takes one million years of living lives conducive to self-realization to become one with God. And in the many lectures I have heard the brothers of SRF say that some souls are actually back here on earth from billions of years of another created universe. In other words they had to wait billions of years in the void when there was no physical universe to come back again when a universe was created to work our their physical desires in the material universe.

Souls who are progressing quicker and want to find enlightenment this life time or perhaps in a soon to come life time are looking for ways to progress quicker spiritually speaking. If that were not the case I would never have created this site with friends that have similar aspirations. And most likely there would not be the people who have came here. We are seekers looking for spiritual enlightenment.

And you know my response, whatever works for you, PY could be right, could be wrong. Only your belief matters. Going to Mars or Rome are not even close to the route to enlightenment, you cannot make any comparative analogy.

It could very well be that if you were waiting in the void, it wasn't really a void, it's only what you are allowed to remember on this planet. There is no way to know for sure.

There are many ways to progress faster, comes down to understanding. But it's foolish to say that if something works for you, if others don't do it that way, well then you're not doing it right and it will take you longer.

Nicely stated to the both of you... And it is equally important that each mode of travel is respected, considering it a unique tale because it is *yours.* <3 I believe God wants that for his children.

The laws of nature and the nature of Spirit make for a fascinating ride.

Paramahansa Yogananda

Paramhansa, as far as I can tell in my research, is the way he signed his own name, and someone at SRF decided he wasn't signing his own name correctly, so they added an extra "a". But I know the fanatics will stand behind it.

Why do people think it's OK to redo things, like how many times has the bible been reinterpreted, and how many different versions are there now?

yes, i believe that even when people are taken out of our life for a time or even for the rest of this life it is also for a purpose. It may seem difficult at first because we become accustomed to certain people and circumstances. But if we remain faithful to our spiritual practice and meditation we will be guided to new and more appropriate places for our learning and growth. Or conversely, we may find that we need to return to revisit places we have been because of the benefits we may have not recognized that they provided. i have experienced both conditions in life. It is good to make such conscious observations and bless those we have had contacts with, in our journey. Rather than put our vibration in the awkward position of feeling we have somehow been slighted by circumstances and people in our lives.

i have seen that it is important to recognize for all our complaining or dissatisfaction, our desires have led us to our present circumstances, and our future ones as well. When we make the effort to rise above our desires and live according to the plan that spirit has for us, we will find that circumstances will also adjust to provide accommodations for our higher aspirations.
