Critics also say that Oxitec failed to engage with local communities in Florida and get their consent to release the mosquitoes. “What’s the most upsetting is that the very people that are going to be most impacted, both by the benefits or the risks of such a decision, have like the smallest voice in how these choices are made. I think that’s a really big issue,” says Natalie Kofler, a molecular biologist and bioethicist who founded Editing Nature, a platform that advocates “for inclusive decision-making processes to steer” the use of genetic technology. “If Oxitec doesn’t do this right,” she adds, “we could have huge impact on delaying the use of other beneficial technologies like that in the future.”

Shortly after, strange reports where mass death of Koi fish and various convulsing wildlife emerged- not too far from where the frankensquitos were released.

Something fishy is happening in Miami as thousands of pricy koi fish have turned up dead at several homes and a city park. It's more than fish, birds, plants, and wild raccoons are mysterious dying, according to local news WPLG Local 10.

The epicenter of the thousands of dead koi is happening in Coconut Grove, a shoreline neighborhood in Miami bordering Biscayne Bay. Homeowners in the community report thousands of their fish have "all of a sudden died."

Could the technology implemented in these mosquitos and the unexplained death of wildlife be related and if so, can it also effect human beings?

The mosquitos have started emerging here in Texas, a cousin to Florida- one can't help but wonder... Are any of these the same experimental frankensquitos released this year?

I do not think any form of government that has no regard for human rights should be allowed to be having any role in gain of function experiments. Such biological experiments in the U.S. should also be treated with scrutiny and we should be aware of the dangers involved. Is research responsible for unleashing organisms that are harmful to human beings? That should be the question. To give the answer that it is worth testing to avoid future epidemics and deadly organisms seems like an opinion to me. It is a judgement call.

To understand the laws that govern the universe and man it is important to have a regular regimen of meditation and spiritual practice otherwise we make great mistakes in judgement. We also need constant guidance from the Great Masters to have discernment on evolving and changing moral and ethical issues.

Genetically engineered (GE) mosquitoes created by biotechnology company Oxitec have been released in the U.S. in Florida and Texas.
In March 2022, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) granted Oxitec a two-year extension of its experimental use permit, or EUP, which would allow the biotech company to release additional GE mosquitoes in Florida as well as in four counties in California for the first time.
While the EPA extended Oxitec’s EUP both the Florida Department of Agriculture and California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) must approve Oxitec’s testing in order for it to move forward in their states.
Following pushback from legislators, California’s DPR announced Oxitec voluntarily withdrew its research authorization application to test its GE mosquitoes in California.
Locally acquired malaria has been nonexistent in the U.S. for the last 20 years, but five such cases have recently been diagnosed — four in Florida and one in Texas.
GE mosquitoes created by biotechnology company Oxitec have been released in the U.S., even though the long-term effects could be disastrous.

Oxitec is using Aedes aegypti (A. aegypti) mosquitoes for this real-world experiment, the species known to carry yellow fever, dengue fever, chikungunya, Zika, West Nile and Mayaro, a dengue-like disease.

Oxitec genetically engineered the males to carry a “genetic kill switch,” such that when they mate with wild female mosquitoes, their offspring inherits the lethal gene and cannot survive or reproduce in the wild.

In the U.S., Oxitec is marketing the insects as Oxitec Friendly mosquitoes, trying to put a non-threatening name on a reckless project that could quickly backfire.

It may even be too late, as the GE mosquitoes have already been released in multiple locations.
