I’ve lived a lot of years on this planet and have personally witnessed the affects of eating meat in people I have known who do so. They are often not ‘morning people’, often morose, moody and ill tempered, if not down right ornery and mean to be around. The more meat they eat the more grumpy they become. It is not by coincidence that most all Masters and yogis recommend leaving dead animals out of our diet and the killing of our brothers and sisters and pets in the animal kingdom. They also have souls and are evolving upward. Many of them are much kinder than humans, some of whom have hearts of solid rock.

I once again find myself in a disagreement with your views. I think it's poor taste to lump sump people into an ill-fated definition. You might agree as I pry a little into your views too. It's important to know where you are with your self. I wonder if these ideas about others creates an expectation and ultimately the reality for you? I am surrounded by a loving family of carnivores. They are early to rise and extremely responsible- although we have our heated moments, we are able to work together in a crisis and try to find agreeable solutions. I'd like to think this has less to do with their diet and more to do with their internal compass. Even Gurunath, a Sat Guru you have been moved by, has told inquiring minds that it is okay to eat meat. He did caution to eat plenty of greens too. My point being, I have many examples and experiences with meat eaters that are different from yours. I understand Gods Love is not any more or less potent based on ones eating habits.

It is simply cruelty to animals to hack their heads off. Anyone not seeing this are also cruel to animals and have a double standard by feeling it is ok to murder friendly cows but not ok to murder their pets. In fact unlike dogs and cats, cows provide us with yogurt, milk, cheese, butter, ice cream (the list is so long) and chickens provide us with eggs. Yet how can anyone endure the wanton violence involved in butchering animals who are in fact our friends and provide us with nourishment and are given to us to provide spiritual messages?

I am not here to disrespect or criticize other people’s views or habits but to state my own. It is up to us and are karma as to how we behave, where we eat and how we eat. I am simply fortunate that I have been around gatherings of kind people to animals and have chosen to be as much as possible. Fortunately for me I have that choice.

I remember as a child feeling horrible about seeing my older step brother shooting birds and my grand father taking me to stock yards while my grandmother chopped the heads off her chickens. As an adult I now understand my innate horror to such sites and unlike a child I can now make my own choices about my environment and the cruelty of others…whether I want to be around such people and participate in their violent acts.

Eric; unlike people I have met who knowingly or ignorantly did not know what they were doing ... I have yet to experience persecution from you as I have from other people with different views. There are also  others who are now joining us here who I have witnessed being persecuted for their views. Your views always interest me and I have learned from people like you with different views so I do not find myself as you have stated “ in a disagreement “ with your views but rather have listened to them as attentively and as much as I have had time to do so and at times gained important insights from them. Furthermore I have been moved by people with different views and eating behaviors all my life. Does one behavior make a person unworthy of listening to? If so you should have stopped listening to me a long time ago.

Cheers

Steve, have you had eye trouble lately? I've had to reduce the screen size to read your replies.  Cheesy

Hey, I accidentally took this out when I was editing but I was saying, it's important for me to understand our selves- so if this is your reality then it is true.

And we can have disagreeing views and that's OKAY. Acceptance for being different is LIBERATING.  Grin

Posted here earlier in the week, "One size does not fit all."

It may interest you. I have been involved in spiritual groups all my life. I have never been at one of these events that served meat ( accept when it was forced on me as a child. )

These are the events I participated in day after day year after year where not even a crumb of meat was served or fish!

Self Realization Fellowship events, services and retreats.
Ramakrishna order events retreats monasteries ashrams.
Seventh Day Adventist events restaurants
Hari Krishna restaurants, events ashrams
Amma events, retreats and living areas

Paramahansa Yogananda explained that meat causes darkness in the eyes and lackluster as well as weakening of magnetism and distraught behavior and ultimately aggression. I have personally witnessed this in my life. I have seen people that have been aggressive who habitually eat meat.

To prove my point. What countries started the most wars?

United States
England
France

https://www.quora.com/What-country-has-started-the-most-wars?top_ans=43097134

Who eats the most meat?

We see a clear link with wealth when looking at patterns of meat consumption across the world.
In 2013, the most recent year available, the US and Australia topped the tables for annual meat consumption. Alongside New Zealand and Argentina, both countries topped more than 100kg per person, the equivalent to about 50 chickens or half a cow each.
In fact, high levels of meat consumption can be seen across the West, with most countries in Western Europe consuming between 80 and 90 kilograms of meat per person.
At the other end of the spectrum, many of the world's poorest countries eat very little meat.

Paramahansa Yogananda (The Self-Realization Fellowship Fellowship Lessons) put fruit at the top of the list for foods increasing spirituality with vegetables second. And said to avoid meat if not stop its use entirely...especially pork being the very worst. With bottom feeder fish the ones to avoid most in the fish kingdom.
