Governments can’t solve these problems for us. We need a broad, inclusive, and honest dialogue across this country about race, justice and liberty. Without it, I don’t see how we can make progress.

The question is, are we currently equipped to even have these much needed conversations and where will they happen?

We are beset by a growing Cancel Culture where irate mobs shout down disagreement with emotional, financial and sometimes even physical violence.

We need to push back against this Cancel Culture and have these difficult conversations to win people over or find common ground, but how?

Do we have these conversations through politicians? That doesn’t seem possible when leaders from both parties do little more than sling hyperbole to score points with their base with very little substance.

Nancy Pelosi thinks there shouldn’t even be Presidential debates. If the two men running to be leader of the free world can’t sit down and have an honest discussion, what hope is there for the rest of us?

Do we have these conversations on College campuses? Not today. Universities that were once at the heart of free speech movements now seem more interested in “safe spaces” and shunning dissent.

Are these conversations happening in the corporate news media? Think again. Too many journalists seem more interested in churning out sensational stories and stirring outrage than earnestly presenting multiple perspectives on complex issues.

We’ve seen editors fired for approving challenging opinion pieces. The New York Times even apologized for running an Op-Ed from Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) after half its editorial staff threatened to quit.

Surely these conversations are happening on Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube though, right? Sadly, they aren’t happening there either. The Internet, intended to be a place of equal access and limitless connections, has been overrun by Big Tech companies who censor and editorialize as they see fit while banning perspectives that don’t conform with their agenda-driven narratives.

So if politicians, universities, the media and Big Tech are part of the problem – part of the Cancel Culture – where do we turn?

The last chance is over my friend. First and foremost I find it an irony that you would use a misleading terminology like ‘Cancel Culture’ to describe something that never existed in the first place.... since the United Clones has never had a culture of its own; unless you want to call business monopoly and strip malls with monotonous clone like regularity (between one town and the next) in this country as our culture. A country that destroyed the culture of indigenous survivors.

Climate change is on us full throttle and still we have an elected official and appointees supporting an antiquated approach to the human imprint on climate change. People set in their ways will not accept the reality of what is facing us today. Even if open discussion takes place. There is a huge segment of our population that will continue to ignore science-just like they did refusing to face the facts that the earth rotated around the Sun. There are still many people today who believe the earth is flat.

Eric it is just like the choir having a discussion among themselves. It is just in their DNA. People that have the inability to see beyond their own views. Have you spent years at college? I have. We spent many many times with open discussions on subjects facing our world and humanity. Usually the younger college students are supporting a more progressive outlook towards issues facing our society today. Why? Because they are more educated and searching for answers that can be validated by facts, science and experience rather than prejudice and Ill informed narrow minded views of world scenarios.

What boggles my mind is that you wanted to get away from all this political talk but here you are now supporting such conversations and glorifying the need for them. I also have noted your constant thoughts about big tech companies and vilifying their use of news and information. I think you should follow this link to see a quite different view:

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/feb/10/silicon-valley-right-wing-donald-trump-peter-thiel

I thought you would be interested in this story I found on MSN: ‘Do not let your guard down’: Blazes grow to historic proportions, as worst looms

 http://a.msn.com/01/en-us/BB18WvwG?ocid=se

“We’re in the midst of a climate crisis,” Newsom said. “We are experiencing weather conditions, the likes of which we have never experienced in our lifetime. We are experiencing what so many people predicted decades and decades ago — but all of that now is reality.”
Climate change has led to drought and hotter weather that has left the state’s forests parched and dry — and easy to ignite. Combined, the fires that have raged across the state this year have burned more than 3 million acres — an area 26 times larger than what burned this time last year. They’ve also been blamed for 19 deaths and the destruction of nearly 4,000 buildings.
“I’m a little bit exhausted that we have to continue to debate this issue. This a climate damn emergency. This is real and it’s happening,” Newsom said during a visit to the Lake Oroville State Recreation Area, where he surveyed damage from the North Complex fires.
————————————————————————————————————————————————

Eric

I am curious to see just how long you will be able to tolerate the open dialogue you promote here before taking another needed break from the ‘politics’ of the conversation as you have expressed previously.

A Myth or True?

We all believe in our own myths.
Someday though when one of us is away
we will not be sure if hearing me or hearing you
is a myth or true
so that’s what keeps us kind
while living here today
with you.

Dear Steve,
Respectfully, I believe you are out of touch with today. That's not always a bad thing.

Do you mean these students?

I don't think we, the innocent and ignorant masses, can grasp the full concept of what's happening. Not while communist interest and greedy elitist use social justice organization's and a pseudo moralistic philosophy as the trojan horse, infiltrating a nation that was founded on ideals like life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all. They're erasing and twisting history, fomenting an outdated narrative, indoctrinating our youth and compromising the direction and the potential from the aforementioned ideals.
Nothing quoted in the original article is fictitious. I'm happy our dynamic can spark some of your more creative faculties. The best you and I can do is as you've said, treat each other with kindness. It's important we remind our youth of these values, love and respect for all. What we're observing and discussing now has always been a rich mans game. It does not make sense to fight over a difference of opinion but as you've said- find the commonalities. I do believe the way we overcome cancel culture is by supporting platforms that base their values on constitutional rights. That's something I would encourage people do, spend their money and energy elsewhere.

God bless Brother!

God bless Brother!

God Bless. No I do not mean isolated cases I mean intelligent statistics and observation finding where most of the violence is coming from. Including ANTIFA which I often here you you speak of and is included in this well thought ought video and study. I could also send you a mob group video of right wing violence but instead of inflammatory content I choose to stick with the facts.

I also would like to respond to what you said about seeking life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Before and during the Civil War, the Southern states prohibited speech of pro-Union citizens, anti-slavery advocates, and northerners in general, since the Bill of Rights did not apply to the states during such times. During the Civil War, many of the Southern states stripped the state citizenship of many whites and banished them from their state, effectively seizing their property.

This took place until the union was again established and the 14th amendment to the constitution was included giving every person in this country equal treatment in its laws. It is called the Equal Protection Clause.

No Steve, it's not really isolated. I don't mind your taking the time to express yourself- I'm archiving two videos here in the meantime. After watching the full video of the one I've shared initially I find it both interesting and upsetting. The video below offers so much to think and talk about and it's mostly unedited. Not some rehearsed one sided debate carefully made but crude moments that speak for themselves and captured for a discerning audience. The mob like behavior is nothing new. There were a few students interested in holding a conversation though they were a minority. I'd say those willing to hold an intelligible conversation, to listen or to treat each other with dignity are a minority in the digital communications realm which is sadly creating a minority in the physical realm too. You see, students with opposing views said they were scared to express them on the campus because large groups of students harass people for being different. It's not just college campuses. What's happening now, if we can put it altogether, is very unique and I think it has something to do with the rapid evolution of communications. As I've shared before, private business owners are scared by protesters that loot and destroy buildings. They say things like, "please don't come here. please don't force people to do anything they don't want to do." It seems the majority of people that are acting out violently and talking down to strangers are young, but fear does not discriminate. I told you one of my best friends was recently assaulted by an older woman because she was not 6 foot from her. Anger really is a retarding agent. Pray we not be poisoned.

By chance I happened to stumble across this video by Paul Joseph Watson who made interesting observations and comparisons of cancel culture. I was delighted to find something relevant to the thread.

Eric you are still chatting about a video. Would you like me to send one of right wing anger and violence? Should we use the site to send violent videos back and forth? Is that where you want to go with this? Should I send you large pictures of large groups of right wingers threatening and committing violent acts and Trumps cronies attracting innocent bystanders. Will this convince you? Or will it just give both of us a bad reputation for pretending to be spiritual and advocating spiritual ideals while at the same time raising the tenure of the violence that already exists.

Dear Steve,
We are not pretending to be spiritual, life is spiritual. I think reputation matters little to Spirit. We are discussing conflicts that effect us today. If you are not interested, please do not watch my contributions or feel the need to reply. The header of this forum says "Social and Spiritual Fellowship, Freedom to Express " It's just you and I. Still, we leave our trail for guest or future members and if anyone is ever interested they are free to reply with whatever thoughts they wish. I love that about your forum. It is possible to look at conflict as an effort to understand and create peace. If you noticed the title of my thread, it's about overcoming tyranny together. Nothing here is spam or suggesting violent action. I think we both agree it's best to respond from Love to the best of our ability.
I stumbled across the perfect page from a book I just happened to pick up tonight to share with you. You may remember this person, Tich Nhat Hanh. This book is called Being Peace.
Quote
The situation of the world is like this. People completely identify with one side, one ideology. To understand the suffering and the fear of a citizen of the Soviet Union, we have to become one with him or her. To do so is dangerous- we will be suspected by both sides. But if we don't do it, if we align ourselves with one side or the other, we will lose our chance to work for peace. Reconciliation is to understand both sides, to go to one side and describe the suffering being endured by the other side, and then to go to the other side and describe the suffering being endured by the first side. Doing only that will be a great help for peace.

During a retreat at the Providence Zen Center, I asked someone to express himself as a swimmer in a river, and then after 15 minutes of breathing, to express himself as the river. He had to become the river to be able to express himself in the language and feelings of the river. After that a woman who had been in the Soviet Union was asked to express herself as an American, and after some breathing and meditation, as a Soviet citizen, with all her fears and her hope for peace. She did it wonderfully. These are exercises of meditation related to non-duality.

The young Buddhist workers in Vietnam tried to do this kind of meditation. Many of them died during service. I wrote a poem for my young brothers and sister on how to die nonviolently, without hatred. It's called Recommendation:

Promise me,
promise me this day
while the sun is just overhead
even as they strike you down
with a mountain of hate and violence,
remember, brother,
man is not our enemy.

Just your pity,
just your hate
invincible, limitless,
hatred will never let you face
the beast in man.
And one day, when you face this
beast alone, your courage intact,
you eyes kind,
out of your smile
will bloom a flower
and those who love you
will behold you
across 10,000 worlds of birth and dying.

Alone again
I'll go on with bent head
but knowing the immortality of love.
And on the long, rough road
both sun and moon will shine,
lighting my way.

To practice meditation is to be is to be aware of the existence of suffering. The first Dharma Talk that the Buddha gave was about suffering, and the way out of suffering. In South Africa, the black people suffer enormously, but the white people also suffer. If we take one side, we cannot fulfill our task of reconciliation in order to bring about peace.

Are there people who can be in touch with both the black community and the white community in South Africa? If there are not many of them, the situation is bad. There must be people who can get in touch with both sides, understanding the suffering of each, and telling each side about the other. Are there people doing that kind of understanding and meditation and reconciliation between the two major political blocs on the earth? Can you be more than Americans? Can you be people who understand deeply the suffering of both sides? Can you bring the message of reconciliation?

....we have a large responsibility as citizens. We think that the government is free to make policy, but that freedom depends on our daily life. If we make it possible for them to change policies, they will do it. Now it is not possible yet. Maybe you think that if you get into government and obtain power, you can do anything you want, but that is not true. If you become President, you will be confronted by this hard fact. You will probably do just the same thing, a little better or a little worse.

Therefore we have to see the real truth, the real situation."
from Being Peace by Tich Nhat Hanh 1987

I hope this helps. I just saw your add-on about the 14th amendment at the bottom of your post. Thanks for all the good info! Good night Bro!

https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2020/06/17/trump-warns-leftist-violence-dangerous-threat-emerges-right-wing-boogaloo-movement/

“The numbers are overwhelming: Most of the violence is coming from the extreme right wing,” said Clint Watts, a former FBI agent who studies extremist political activity for the Foreign Policy Research Institute, a think tank in Philadelphia.

Eric.. I appreciate your contribution from; Tich Nhat Hanh. The book called Being Peace. Used to read his material and be involved with Buddhist meditation groups in Kalamazoo Michigan while living there. Because of several campuses in the area there was quite an interest in meditation and Buddhism ☸️ in the surrounding areas.

The other thing to realize is, many "left" and "right" attacks will be staged or manipulated for the purpose of keeping people divided. It has been proven that our media today is neither fair or honest. Our media has been more about sensationalism, about being first. Many of us have seen two sides of the same story, where mainstream media reports an instance one way and alternative media another. When you realize who owns the main stream media, when you see the entirety of a story for your self, you realize that a warring and ruling class operates as gatekeepers of information. We've exposed project mockingbird in another thread. We've shared many stories with different twist on them. We've seen social media giants suppress information.

What we're observing and discussing now has always been a rich mans game.

Both government and corporate officials have allied with foreign interest in order to secure the direction of this nation. They use a divided people as cannon fodder.

Quote
What's happening now, if we can put it altogether, is very unique and I think it has something to do with the rapid evolution of communications.

People today are dependent upon entertainment or have general dread and restlessness which stems from the way of life we have procured. Those leaders who have asked the youth to act with malice have allied with those leaders who promote cancel culture. These are some of the same leaders who okay particular narratives over another, in order to achieve a greater goal. Who war game how to present particular information through the digital realms, affecting us all. With the rise of deep fakes, video editing technology, we can expect to see even more- real and virtual attacks on the minds of the innocent. They can use technology to make it appear as if you've said something you have never said.

The way we overcome is by promoting the values of love and respect for all or by spending our money on platforms and movements we believe honor the same. It can be hard to do in todays climate when social justice organizations are a front for anti-liberty regimes and self serving factions. We've seen grass roots organizations attacked and labeled racist and bigots for standing against the bigger players of this game.
With the use of advanced technology and the understanding of a peoples psychological dependency for entertainment, the ruling class regulates information and dictates to its audience what is considered, "factual" and what is not. We were fortunate enough to witness them remove competing platforms from an audience in real time, before they themselves were able to secure complete authority. When misinformation rules society, we can see the influence any particular movement has on its people and whether or not that's something we ought to continue supporting.

What? The indigenous people burned fires to keep things under control?  😂 Why do people bring up what happened thousands of years ago to a culture barely occupying the land?  Why are there over 60% of the forests in California federal land? (Federal land is managed for many purposes, such as the conservation and development of natural resources, grazing and recreation. The federal government owns 47.70 percent of California's total land, 47,797,533 acres out of 100,206,720 total acres.) ... forests which are needed for our oxygen and to eat the carbon dioxide destroying our planet?! Why is Emporer Trump spending all our money sending the national guard to the border when he could use them to fight fires in the federal forests which is his responsibility and negligence!  Why isn’t a so called modern culture practicing stewardship to the land and our Mother Earth? We have many more people today to prevent forest fires. Unlike in the past which that total ignorant man speaking on the video never mentions! Of course there were larger fires! There were no fire departments! What a total asinine statement to make and to ignore! There  is no leadership in this country only abuse to its citizens and the total stupidity not even to listen to science or for that matter... the inability to open their own eyes!!!

We have the resources man power and technology to stop these fires yet they are being spent on the border instead of the forests that Donald Trump is not maintaining...they are spent on huge tax handouts to the wealthy for welfare! Why is it we have such a lunatic running our government who hasn’t a clue about climate change? Why is it we see signs up now that say anybody for president that is mentally stable? Fuhrer Trump and his climate arsonists are the worst thing that ever came to this world in history. Why is it that 168 countries will not let Americans in their countries? Why is it that Canada demands a two week quarantine for any United States citizen to enter their country? Because of an Imbecile running our country down with covert 19 while other nations stand by looking at the total incompetence of our present leader and his minions. Trump and his henchmen have made a cesspool of garbage and destruction to this country and made it a laughing stock and despicable to the world. The very lowest class of people who should be incarcerated for their crimes against humanity.

President Donald Trump visited California on Monday, as Gov. Gavin Newsom and other officials raised the issue of climate change for playing a role in the fires. Trump interjected at one point and said, "It will start getting cooler." Ha ha! Let’s enjoy some more ‘dry’ humor. After California Department of Natural Resources Secretary Wade Crowfoot said he wished the science agreed, Trump replied: "I don't think science knows, actually. Former Vice President Joe Biden on Monday called Trump a " climate arsonist" and called for action. Climate change "requires action, not denial," he said. "It requires leadership, not scapegoating."

We know exactly what is the main cause of climate change. Anyone with a moticum of awareness knows the total ignorance of Trump his appointees and the misguided mindsets of those who are voting for the Antichrist. Eric will you truly continue supporting this raving lunatic and deny climate change? It is unbelievable to me!  California is currently experiencing a record heatwave, with Los Angeles reporting its highest ever temperature of 49.4C (121F).

oh, steve. i'm afraid you've missed the point i was making and have made an assumption about me from this video. i know the mainstream media is attempting to generalize all people who question them as global warming deniers(now rephrased climate change deniers), it's simply not the case. that's another tactic used on the digital battlefield and the radical outburst expressed by these divided people are usually derived from a dependency upon the entertainment or media complex and the overwhelming effect is has on ones emotions. whether echo-chambers fuel their moral compass or a quarantined lifestyle has prevented them from widening perspectives, what happens is isolated instances are clipped and exaggerated or manipulated specifically made to have you react. we have witnessed the rise of tech giants regulating the flow of information. the point of the video above was to show what local news sources are reporting compared to the coordinated efforts between the FBI and the mainstream media. hurtful generalizations are a part of the communications warfare, if people could calmly speak to one another they'd find they have more in common than not. the latest example of this i've seen trending in the digital ghetto's is that white christians are climate change deniers, which is just as bad as joe biden saying, "you aren't black if you vote trump." for one that's a terrible assumption and a clear example of the political and racial attacks that still plague the minds of the innocent. living in the city and working in a job where i can speak to so many faces in a respectable manner, i can say that those i've talked to are all for a cleaner environment and equal opportunity for all. some of those people are trump supporters, and they aren't all white christians either. some are and that's okay too. this goes back to living from your heart and doing your best. do your best and forget the rest. we aren't even a blink in time, and this all may be a grand illusion. who you vote for is your right, one that ought to be respected even if another disagrees with your decision. when we see each other, we ought to pick up trash together and enjoy our time in slow walking meditation. i think that'd be lovely.  Smiley

Just did that Sunday and Monday my friend; picked up trash and was in the woods walking and then meditating! Synchronically you brought that up. I have no problem with you bringing up other views. When people talk with only one view; the left is all wrong and the right is all right. Well I would just rather make a turn to the left because one view and vision is so narrow.

Peace brother and yes a walk with meditation would most likely be beneficial to both of us. Maybe we could walk on the path before us without veering to the left or right. Ha ha!
