MahaaShivaraatri Blessings & Message
by His Holiness Swami Vidyadhishananda

Adorable Aspirant,

The great night of meditation, or MahaaShivaRaatri on Maagha-Krishna-Chaturdashi (Aamanta), is determined when the duration of the fourteenth waning lunar day includes midnight local time. Thus MahaaShivaRaatri is celebrated on the night of 21st February 2020 in USA and India.

Meditation on this special night is a practice of alertness meant to supersede the awake-state during the day. On this occasion, I am sharing a recording of vintage chanting and a guided meditation for your ritual and contemplation. May you hold the Lord of Time in your heart.

Rudraadhyaayah Chanting - Namakam & Chamakam - 44 min https://hansavedas.org/rudraadhyaayah-namakam-chamakam/

Guided Meditation - 75 min https://multimedia.hansavedas.org/free- ... reathing-2

With the abounding holy blessings of my Meditation Lineages,
Shivasuta - Swami Vidyadhishananda

PS. Please use high-quality speakers for the best experience of chanting.

In Indian culture, all the ancient prayers were not about saving yourself, protecting yourself or doing better in life. All the ancient prayers have always been “Oh lord, destroy me so that I can become like yourself.” So when we say Shivratri, which is the darkest night of the month, it is an opportunity for one to dissolve their limitedness, to experience the unboundedness of the source of creation which is the seed in every human being.

I propose these inspiring words from Hazrat Inayat Khan to assist you in viewing the content provided by Swami V in tonights meditation.

The greatest fault of the day is the absence of stillness. Stillness is nowadays often taken as leisureliness or as slowness. Modern man lacks concentration and carries with him an atmosphere of restlessness. With all his knowledge and progress he feels uncomfortable himself, and unintentionally brings discomfort to others. Stillness is therefore the most important lesson that can be taught to the youth of today.

Venerable Aspirants,

I write to you on the occasion of MahāŚivarātri to share my blessings on this annual great night of meditation. This evening and night of 8th March, 2024 is dedicated to the Lord of Time, Śiva.

Siddhas and yogins do not consider time to be an entity but only a succession of moments. Moments to them are the tiniest periods wherein mutations of real objects are perceived. This is because in advanced meditation (higher and deeper samādhi), beyond all conceptions of words and what objects those words denote, there is no such thing as time.

So the definition of time is relative. To the busy person, time is precious and there is not enough of it. Whereas to the meditator the perception of passing time is absent. The meditator comes out of deep meditation and expresses lack of cognizance of time spent in meditation!

Two moments are not present at the same time. There is also no succession of two coexisting moments. A moment is relative to objects and rests upon sequence (krama), the latter is a succession of moments. This is defined by siddha-yogins as knowledge of time as time.

What we call the present is only a single moment, and an earlier or a later moment does not exist. In this moment there is a combination of the past, present, and future. In that one present moment the whole universe is undergoing a change, and past, present, and future exist in one present moment.

By practicing the highest concentration or immersive meditation (saṁyama) on the moment and the sequence of such moments, discriminative knowledge is acquired about what is consciousness and what is matter (and its evolution). Śiva is the embodiment of that timelessness (meditation) in the moment of time! Indeed, the mystery of time and its relativity reveals the Śiva-tattwa – or the essential principle of Śiva.

On this occasion, I am sharing a new 23-minute guided meditation, based on Lord Śiva’s Aham Graha technique of Advaita Vedanta philosophy, from our Academy mobile app for your contemplative experience. Please use high-quality speakers for the best listening experience. May you hold the Lord of Timelessness in your heart.

With the abounding holy blessings of my meditation lineages,

Śivasuta - Swami Vidyadhishananda
