Hericium erinaceus

"A unique, beautiful, long toothed fungus, that forms a cascading waterfall of strands. The fruiting body of lions mane is well known for it's lobster or crab like flavor."

"Hericium erinaceus contains many healing compounds found within the mushroom and mycelium. Two promising compounds found: hericenones(1) from the mushroom, and erinacines(2) from the mycelia of the fungi. Both compounds reported to have a neurotrophic effect, with neuroprotective properties from the erinacines group."

"Erinacine A is a natural substance that is found in lions mane fungus more so in the mycelium. It contains anti-depressive properties, stimulates nerve growth factor and may have additional benefits. Nerve growth factor is a substance in the body that protects healthy neurons. It promotes neurogenesis, which is the development of new and healthy nervous tissue. Enhanced hippocampal neurogenesis has been linked to anti-depressive and anti-anxiety effects. It may become the target of new treatments in the future, as research shows that it helps regulate affective states.

Most beneficial part of lions mane fungus? The mushroom or mycelium? Both have bioactive compounds. Some compounds are only found in the mushroom or only in the mycelium. Supplement companies rarely offer mushroom & mycelium combinations. Our personal opinion is that it is best to consume both parts, the mushroom and its' mycelium, for optimum benefits consistency is key.

Fruiting lions mane bodies research has shown antioxidant & anti-osteoporotic(1), anticancer(2,3), prevention of age-related diseases(4) and anti-inflammatory(5) properties.

Lions mane mycelia research has shown protection against environmental pollutants (6), anticancer(7), antidiabetic(Cool, ischemic stroke, Parkinson's disease, alzheimer's disease(9), neuroprotective(10) and antidepression(11) properties."

"In the wild, Hericium erinaceus can be found growing in North America, Europe and Asia. Thanks to its culinary and medicinal potential, it can also be found on many store shelves. Whether people opt to include this nootropic superfood in their diet because of its' pleasant, light, seafood-like flavor- or because of its neuroprotective properties, they are likely to enjoy the benefits of its ability to support cognition, focus & memory."
