For years i've worked on relaxing the body for meditation. More recently i have also been practicing relaxing the mind as well. The mind wants to get snagged on certain ideas and obsessive thoughts. We often have to be aware of this habit of the mind to freeze up and tense the consciousness with unwelcome thoughts.

We may find people around us who succumb to rigid thought patterns and also leaders and friends who make little effort to look beyond their own thoughts and attitudes. When we see this we are drawn back to our own practice and thoughts and how they limit our expansion of consciousness.

What i have noticed is that i am much less haunted by obsessive thoughts thru years of meditation. It is easier to let go of thoughts, people, places and situations as the awareness becomes more in tune with the awakening opportunities around us and the significance of the unfolding drama being played out before our eyes.

I have found that various forces outside of meditation can affect the mind during meditation. Being around people that are agitated and confused because they will not allow time for mediation can also influence us and our meditation practice.

I used to do meditations with my friends which was definitely different from a morning to myself or even a hot yoga class with meditation at the end. It can be difficult when you’re with a loved one and you both try meditating together Cheesy

I was speaking more about our choice of friends, lovers anf associates during our life. Often we bring their presence in our meditations. Its difficult enough to calm the mind without having the drama that is a perpetual agitation of other peoples lives infiltrating our meditations.
