I have wondered  about this for sometime. Why do people remain obstinate? We  often try to avoid such people. They are not fun to be around because once they decide on a view they take, it is very difficult.....if not impossible, to find any compromise or flexibility in their attitudes. As we experience meditation more and more we recognize an infinite amount of possibilities and we become humbled by this awareness. Absolute and arbitrary mindsets become more and more passee. We see these attitudes as part of the minds control over us. We are given many mirrors around us to see clearly what we ourselves have become. The mirrors continue until we recognize what boundaries and walls we have bult around ourselves from expanding our consciousness and awereness.

I think eventually something will cause that persons way of thinking to crumble. Usually the more you build it up the bigger the, "disaster."

Still aware of how we get use to habits and a certain way of doing things and it is very difficult to change those habits. Most people find it almost impossible. However, as we see ourselves more and more how others see us and are objective about ourselves, we become aware of how our own ingrained habits can confine us to a certain way of doing things. A certain type of behavior that limits our spiritual physical and mental growth. Some habits can be good for us. But having discrimination and the guidance of a Master or guru gives us insight as to how we have limited our consciousness and sphere of thought.  We are given many mirrors around us to see clearly what we ourselves have become. The mirrors continue until we recognize what boundaries and walls we have bult around ourselves from expanding our consciousness and awareness.

I think eventually something will cause that persons way of thinking to crumble. Usually the more you build it up the bigger the, "disaster."

Without the guidance of a Master and the willingness to change most often there will be little to no change from life to life. Thus we see a lifelong tendency to for instance, criticize others, drink or smoke etc, This is a clear example of a psychological antique.

Obstinacy can be a good attitude in some instances, but the kind of obstinate mentality you re talking about, that sure negates mental and spiritual evolution.
As you say, the guidance of a guru is fundamental. Traditionally, it was the father figure or the elders of the community who gave guidance but presently this aspect is usually lost. I did not have much guidance from my earthly father, but what I missed from him I had back in abundance from the SRF gurus.

The mirrors is a good figure of speech, we have so many human traits not to imitate around, and a few to imitate, we are reminded by the human mirrors around us what to change in ourselves.
