"We meet only those people with whom our meeting is predestined. Duration of association with each person is also preordained. One should not grieve if one is separated or if the association does not last long." - Neem Karoli Baba

Some of you might remember that i asked Brother Bhaktinanda a question relevent to this thread; Brother is there or is there not predestination or freewill? Brother: "There is and there isn't freewill. There is not since God already knows what will happen. But since we do not know what the outcome of events are we have to act as agents of free will making choices. "

Many people have left my life only to return at a later date and people i have lost from past incarnations have returned to me to meet again in this life.

My opinion, which derives from my understanding of the sages, is that freewill is a relative illusion. Like so many other things in phenomenal existence. It exists so long as the feeling of "I" is present. When the feeling of "I" disappears then who is there to have "freewill"? So freewill exists from a relative standpoint. But in actuality God is the doer all the time. This is just another way of saying what you have quoted from Brother Bhaktananda. Here is a paradoxical example related to this: When a person chooses God, it means that God has chosen him. This is the mystery of grace.
