One thing we find very important to work on in our spiritual development is our moods. It is difficult to know what a person is really like until you are with them for an extended period of time and see how they are affected by their moods. Relationships can be destroyed by bad moods because those who are in bad moods take it out on others.

I once met someone I spent two weeks with she was one of the most pleasant persons I had met. Yet when i  was exposed to being  with her in the mornings, I met an entirely different person. She explained to me she was not a morning person. I realized at that point it would be very difficult for us to live together.

Yogananda says that all our moods are a result of past karma that is percolating up inside ourselves. Moods are also a result of over indulgence in the senses. When i get in a bad mood i constantly practice a mantra to lift myself out of it. Moods are like dark clouds that surround us that everyone wants to stay away from and should if they are able. Because they will affect us as well.

Inspired by a talk on moods by Paramahansa Yogananda

Reasons why I have tried to over come moods:

i do not like being with people in foul moods.
I do not like being around me when I'm in a bad mood.
Moods take away our magnetism.

Things i have found to help:

Meditate.
Stop eating meat.
Chant  a mantra or affirmation constantly until the mood dissapates.
Avoid overindulgence in the senses.

People i have found the most moody:

Alcoholics.

People who have Bi-polar tendencies.

People we who do not understand the importance of meditation.

Heavy meat eaters=dark personalities  Smiley

i have found that people with bad moods r difficult to reason with because they often get defensive and may have insecurities that impel them to b this way. Paramahansa Yognanada said that all moods are our own responsibility. Even if it is difficult to find the cause of the mood it can b found in the karmic conditions created in the past. i was moody the other day and i realized  i needed to immediately meditate. Afterwards i recognized the dark clouds starting to rise.

When I feel some nasty mood is trying to possess my mind I try to activate the off switch at the central interface brain-mind. The same breakers which are sometimes activated by intoxicant substances or pharmaceutical drugs. Sometimes it works.

Have you just observed your "mood" without any desire that it should be one way or another, good or bad? You know it cannot last very long. Different chemicals are released in the body and we label these things with words like sad, afraid, anxious, good mood, bad mood. None of it is permanent, though. It is an ever moving stream.

The "mood" has long passed, yet you are still thinking of it. I wonder about this.

The main challenge i see is this one word u r using: Thinking. When thinking subsides the mood passes and u r feeling good again. U r free of the mood. Meditation relinquishes such thoughts. However we must also recognize that Rome was not conquered in a day and very few of us conquer ourselves in even a life time. It is good to have patience with ourselves and recognize what we still need work on while recognizing the small accomplishments we have made. Yes i also wonder. Why r some thoughts and moods so persistent and often return?

"The "mood" has long passed, yet you are still thinking of it. I wonder about this."

The idea of contemplating the mood as an outside factor or running water is a good one.

Some moods can be exceedingly obnoxious though and simply to put oneselves outside them may not be enough.

In such cases I favour an active strategy, like talking to the mood (yes, I believe moods are caused by demons who are observing your reactions). Or actuating the switches releasing chemicals or astral cehmicals into the material or astral brain.

The above cited demons may have a conscious or unconscious intelligence. Their work may be to suggest moods and demonic thoughts or they may merely be obnoxious and automatical intelligences whose work is to magnify the importance of some events.

Moods are an expression of Satan and may not be underestimated.

Today I'm activating the 'on' switch on the 'metamphetamine' board. That means I willingly manipulate my brain controls and choose to feel powerful and unvincible like the meth users.

You might just as well say, that "I breathe when I sleep" is the same thing as "I sleep when I breathe" If narcolepsy is such a concern! My methamphetamine switch was disabled during detox.

Is it you that feels powerful and invincible or is it the God within you that u have connected to that makes u that way? Until we have really connected with that God within we must be careful about what we are identifying with when we have such feelings.... wouldn't you say?

That's correct Steve, when I activate such breakers I draw directly form the invincibility and power of the Soul, which is a direct emanation of God. Mistaking such a power with the power of ego gives usually rise to hubris and subsequent lack of discernment (a common affliction of dictators). Those who choose amphetamine have a response which is similar but which causes slavery to a toxic substance with subsequent irreversible damage to the brain, the command consolle itself.
