How do we stop obsessing about people and past events? The mind has to loosen its tentacles. i have found the best way is to meditate since the practice of meditation helps us flow and helps us release issues and thoughts. Yet it also seems important to me to keep pliable and open to new life situations that take us out of the rut of repititious thought patterns and emotional roughage. Although it is difficult to 'digest' such material the 'fiber' of new people
and a new outlook helps these issues 'pass thru'.

Connecting with the divine opens us to better thought grooves and people and situations
that reflect our growing and expanding awareness. We also find that old people we knew may come back in our lives with a changed consciousness due to spiritual lessons from life.

Being fixated on a certain person or certain events in life is to ignore the fact that life and the universe is forever giving and has much more to offer. The issue is that we often want God and the universe to give us what we want and not what is best for us.

We often continue to reflect on a small group of friends our own problems and perhaps one relationship. But in truth we are much more than this small circle of friends and a few small views of ourselves. That is why we meditate; to see outside this small view of ourselves and the universe and to see who we are and not what we 'think' we are and what we 'think' the universe is. Sometimes in this process we must let go of those around us who are not making the effort
to have a larger view of reality because these situations and people hold us back in our own progress. Especially when others enter our lives who have the ability to help us move forward.

Hello friend,

As you know when we are in a vacuum between relationships we often dwell on what recently happened until life brings us new scenarios of learning and opens us to new relationships. Although as I see it, in that vacuum there is the potential for much spiritual growth and self understanding. We cannot always understand the motivations of others around us but we can have gestalts if you will, in our recognition of where another person is at in development when and if they leave us or cut the relationship short in karmic destiny. This sets a whole new round of karmic events for them.

Part of the obsessing, on our part is having done all we could for them and for the relationship. When they lay down their cards
in finality, they gave up and they are out..... we at that point can only play them. Then the game is often over. There is nothing more we can do when someone else folds. We can only control ourselves. If others have controlled the environment of our relationships by setting up rules of conduct by asking us not to play and not to return to the table that is their karma. We are free of it.

"The present alone exists. To attempt to understand the past and the future without having ascertained the truth of the 'now' is like trying to count without the number one." - Ramana Maharshi

The brain has certain grooves. Certain ways of processing and assimilating. Certain ways of reflecting. Though it brings resistance challenging those patterns and beginning to approach matters in a more constructive manner is always the spiritual task we must be open to. It would be interesting to know what Ramana Maharshi has to say about forthought, vision ,reflection and introspection. How these important spiritual practices fit in with his quote-since we learn and gain wisdom from past events and carve our destiny in the moments forsight.
