Our relationship with others often defines our self concept. i believe that is why we often change our relationships as we need to find an image that fits who we want to be.

I think you are right. We do a lot out of self-concept. The tribal identity has been dissolved by the modern world, leaving nothing in its place. Man is seeking his tribe, which supplies him with a self-concept, which is why he gravitates to groups. Religious groups especially, as they provide man with the tribal cohesion which he seeks. But it also creates problems as well, as the tribe is constantly challenged by outer forces in a rapidly changing world.
