Sri has the original meaning of radiance, or diffusing light. Through association with holiness and subsequent use as part of a name, it is akin to English Saint. Sri is frequently used as an epithet of some Hindu gods. When used as a title for gods, Śrī is sometimes translated into English as Lord.
