Title: Why Kriya?
Post by: Jitendra Hydonus on Apr 20, 2021 02:33 am
Why choose Kriya meditation? There are several answers I have to that. But one in particular is the withdrawal of life force from the body. Why do I deem that important? The major reason is that the senses are always occupied with the body as long you are conscious of their outward energies. They relay messages back to the brain that you are feeling different sensory stimuli from the body. One of the most difficult 😞 experiences is overcoming itches and irritations that the body is subject to like heat and coldness. When you are able to withdraw the consciousness from the body it is much easier to focus on meditation and not on thirst and hunger among other perceptions.

Steve, I am so happy you are dedicated to this practice as I've long fallen from grace. The discipline is 'en route.'

Maybe. Or maybe not. I've been enjoying my life as is too... But when I think about the effort you've put in, and the ability to enjoy your immersions- the withdrawl effect... Well it is always inspiring. I don't know if you realize how often you enjoy that personable communication with God... maybe I am romanticizing things- but it is a good feeling.

Thank you for your persistence.

Isn’t that a wonderful quality about friendship? We are able to ‘see’ qualities about another human being that inspire us and endear them to us. In our case both of us have that mutual admiration.

Paramahansa Yogananda describes the benefits of the four Kriya techniques that are taught in the Self-Realization Fellowship Lessons;

All four of these Kriya techniques make you more conscious of the spine and a cerebrospinal spiritual centers of life and consciousness. In the beginning the mind is on the flesh. Producing the powerful delusion of body consciousness; but by the practice of these techniques you become more aware of yourself as a spiritual being. You see your entire body and all its physical and mental processes are sustained by the cerebrospinal centers, and ultimately realize yourself as an immortal soul ever united with the eternal spirit.

Understand the two results to be achieved from Kriya

There are two results to be achieved in the practice of Kriya; First the disconnecting of the life force from the senses; as a result of that, the disconnecting of the mind from the senses in an indirect, unconscious, and hence unscientific way. But the Kriya Yogi, unlike the unscientific meditator who uses mind only takes the scientific approach. The life force is switched off from the senses consciously so that the mind automatically becomes disconnected from the manifold material distractions. Then one is ready and able to concentrate upon the infinite as  Aum  the Holy Ghost Cosmic Vibration, the infinite light of God pervading all creation.

So secondly as Kriya switches off the life current and mind from the physical body and nervous system, it will reveal the way to free your soul from forced imprisonment in the physical body. Your consciousness has descended from  the medulla and the brain into the spine and nervous system the senses. Kriya shows you the real way of ascension of the soul to Spirit.  By withdrawing your life and mind from body consciousness, through the spinal highway back to the infinite omnipresence.

~ Paramahansa Yogananda
