Lesson 23: In the hong sau technique it is important to say the mantra for the duration of the inhalation and exhalation.
The 20 20 20 breathing exercises or Amma's physical routine are all helpful to have a more conscious awareness of the breath before doing the mantra. Tensing and relaxing the body several times to double inhalations and exhalations helps rid the body of carbon dioxide and slows the breath down as it continues to get more and more shallow during the actual technique.

Thanks for the reminder to say the mantra, I can see one might be caught up in the breathing and the counting and forget.

Practice of Hong Sau or a Mantra

Chant the mantra for the duration of the breath. Both during the inhilation and exhalation. At the end of practice, expel all breath from the lungs and enjoy the 'breathless state' for as long as you can without discomfort. Do this 3 times.

"to be contolled by moods is to be a part of matter...."

we must overcome stage fright....

yes... ????

behold our Parts.....do not play them in the depths of maya...illusion....on screen.  but rather watch them..from the Seats.

take grasp of the parts that we contract....do not shy from them,,,,but see them For What They Truly are...

look at life...thru the christ consciousness...see thru the christ consciousenss.........

then ones Part in Life becomes Clear..

the roles of others in our Lives..becomes Clearer...

Catalysts....are what we are to another...

or maybe not...it is all upon Us...to take Control.

i Fear not the Past....and i look upon the Future...

THAT...is what i hold Onto......

The company we Hold onto in the Now...is what Counts...

Lesson 23-A SRF "Hong Sau" Technique of Concentration

i have not noticed as much 'success' at this technique as some the others offered by SRF. However after reading this i felt that over the years my attitude has changed quite a bit. "Do not Attempt to regulate the breath in any way; merely observe it. This practice helps the student to transfer his sense of I-ness away form the body; and become, like the soul, a "silent witness" of bodily activities."

i think what you say is true. We are constantly evolving in our contacts with others. Yet we need not hold on to our fear of the past. Yet we often have the same lessons coming to us over and over until we learn the lesson. This is not a fear but rather the need to get the lesson and do the right things this time around. In this way we are catalysts to one another. But there is often a familarity, a knowing that takes place in us and we act upon such hunches. This is O.K. We also know when to hold back and wait. Going forward and holding back. Leading and following are all important factors to successful relationships with others. Woudn't you agree?

Lesson 24 How to Overcome Nervousness

In Lesson 24 Master says: "Even a few moments in the company of a saint can work wonders in producing calmness and quiet. A real holy man acts as a spiritual raft in producing calmness and quiet. A real holy man acts as a spiritual raft to carry you over the sea of trials and suffering."

Amma has this effect on the people who visit her.

Lesson 22 "The person who tries to attain mind-control by harmonizing breath life force and vital essence, finds freedom more quickly then the person who tries to attain mental control without the aid of controlled breath, energy and vitality.

Paramahansa Yogananda has quite a lot to say about nervousness and its causes in lesson #24. He mentions that if you are nervous you can not meditate deeply to acquire peace and wisdom.

"Restless mind vibrating through the nerves is called nervousness." PY
