Title: Putting the mind to rest.
Post by: Jitendra Hydonus on Aug 25, 2020 04:40 pm
Thoughts cause us to worry, anxiety, anxiousness, passion, sadness, distress and the list goes on. How can we put the mind at rest?

1. Avoid actions you know will cause the mind to get disturbed because of the consequences of those actions.

2. Meditate regularly because meditation— even though it seems as though the mind may be unsettled during meditation— gives peace and happiness. This brings calmness and equanimity in everyday encounters.

I have tried to understand why the mind constantly is at odds with our meditation practice. I have determined from long years listening to those who have much more experience and higher awareness then myself that the mind has several layers. It is influenced by super-conscious awareness, conscious awareness, and subconscious factors. The waves of mental thoughts fluctuate between these various stages of consciousness. Various bodily conditions and environmental factors influence the current state of consciousness we experience. It is akin to a boat on the ocean. Storms can toss and turn it. Smooth sailing on a sunny day can bring calmness and happiness and looking into the depths below can bring discoveries of untold treasures. Looking up into the nite skies can bring expansion beyond any sailing trips we have ever experienced.

And so it is with the mind. Dependent on where we direct it’s activities depends on where it presently finds itself. To calm its relentless journey out through the senses requires constant observation and redirection. Many times it may be very difficult to find any peace from the restlessness of the minds activities. This is because all the memories and feelings from past experiences lie below the surface ruffling the waves on which our boat ⛵️ is floating. Past life experiences also influence the waves beneath our conscious awareness. We have no choice but to calm the restless activities from these experiences as well that still lie with us in our unconscious memory.
