Lesson 131

So long as man's heart holds hatred and repulsion toward any brother, so long must that man keep roaming through the corridors of incarnations. When you feel that the stars, clouds, birds, beasts, great men, and outcasts are as dear to you as your blood relatives, and that you're omnipresent heart throbs in them all, then the imprisonment of reincarnations will be enforced on you no longer. inayat khan says the same thing. friendship is typically the longer lasting of all relationships. yogananda advises we befriend god, and that god might share with us as a friend would if he so chooses.

here the realization of god in all that is means to do our best to befriend life by honoring all of creation. it can be most difficult.

I know I’ve taken the best from our friendship and ....  There is nothing like a supporting friend!

Some of Gods laws can often be discouraging because we have a difficult time abiding by them. I was just addressing this issue of discouragement and depression when the inner meaning came to me after an awakening awareness. Sometimes the realization that we are facing the consequences of past actions from past expressions on this planet can be jarring and discouraging because this may not be the first time we have made the same mistakes but they are mistakes or errors in judgement made in other lives as well.

 
Yogananda makes this comment about reincarnation in this lesson; “Each soul, although immortal is conscious only of its present life once. It is well that we know only that we are playing this drama of life once, to be called back then whence we came. Many people would postpone their effort to do their best if they knew that they were to have another chance, and many would not have the courage to try to play their life drama well if they knew that they had acted very poorly in their former lives.”

Perhaps then we should take some encouragement from the knowledge of past lives that we are now at a point in our spiritual evolution to face some of the consequences of our past actions from previous lives in this present incarnation.

It may also help us understand why some people blame circumstances on others and not on themselves. Also, why we often recoil in the face of being judged and feel discouraged ourselves.

To the spiritual aspirant it would therefore seem wise to respond with Love and Goodness to "unfavorable" conditions in order to transcend and experience liberation.

I often think of your advice here!

When a child that is sent to School fails to make the grade he has to go back to get it again until he passes his examinations. So all souls souls who fail to preserve their perfection while in the material school of educative of entertainment have to go back for many incarnations until they completely bring out the hidden spirit-nature. The immortal soul must win several prizes in maintaining self -endurance, self-control, detachment, morality, calmness and spirituality before graduating, and must pass all grades in the earthly school in order to be ready for immortality.

Immortal soul children are sent to the movie house of life to make pictures or to watch pictures of life, both tragedies and comedies, with unruffled equanimity. When these divine children can go back to God and say: “Father I enjoyed acting in and watching Thine earthly moving pictures, but I have no more desire for evanescent amusements,”  they are no longer forced by their material desires to come back to Earth.
