Title: Re: noelle Post by: b on May 13, 2016 07:32 am I think Mccoy is right. Most of the guest hits on this site are bots and the sign ups, like our friend Noelle here, are also.
So you won't be surprised to find that Noelle will never respond to this thread or post anything. Title: Re: noelle Post by: Jitendra Hydonus on May 13, 2016 08:08 am I think Mccoy is right. Fascinating conclusion and thanks for calling her on it. But if it is a person or robot why did they sign up? Noelle is a girls name meaning; popularity. Title: Re: noelle Post by: b on May 13, 2016 01:03 pm I am curious about it as well, Steve. I don't know why they do this. I have no idea why a real person would take the trouble of signing up for a site and never posting a single thing. A bot is doing it to open the door for its spam activities. Perhaps some get through the door but the software cuts them off the rest of the way. Not real sure. But hey Noelle, if you are really a human, I invite you to prove my theory wrong. Just post one thing and then return to your aloof silence.
Also, while we are pondering inexplicables, we mull over this one: (I have obscured IP addresses out of courtesy) (http://www.self-realization.us/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/spbots.png) How is it that guest users are posting? They don't even have an option to post unless they are logged in (and of course we never see these posts). This is consistent with what you would expect of bot activity (an automated script that is crawling the internet and trying to spam sites wherever it can). Fortunately the software must be blocking most of these attempts. Well, maybe these few are just the bots and rest are real people. But I am curious who these people are, where they are coming from, and why they are such loyal readers yet never sign up, sign in, or post. 8) Title: Re: noelle Post by: b on May 13, 2016 01:20 pm And Noelle, if you are a real person, I apologize in advance. Obviously this is nothing against you, personally.
Title: Re: noelle Post by: b on May 13, 2016 01:29 pm I just noticed one guest reading a happy birthday message for someone named Prabhat which was posted in 2010.
WOW. Happy Birthday there, Prahbat. Geez. That is fascinating copy right there! Cough, bot, cough. Title: Re: noelle Post by: Jitendra Hydonus on May 13, 2016 04:05 pm i would say it is possible that someone tried to post as a guest but was unable to. i have even tried it to see if it would work. Furthermore u will never find me getting involved in some sites yet i read them quite often. i would say this b; If u r unsatisfied with our present hosting y don't we talk about another host as i have suggested before. If indeed u think it would b a better solution. Some times u have to take the good with the bad. It is part of duality. It is the nature of this physical reality. That is y we are looking for a way to our freedom! However if u think that we have better options please contact me about it. i have found many inconsistencies about the internet and sites on the internet. The internet is as imperfect as the people who have developed it.
However we r fortunate to have had the interest of more and more people with no doubt a corresponding interest by commercial interests as well - which is inevitable. This is the answer i saw from our host; 'It's probably a spider bot just tracking a URL someone else was just on. Something like a URL post' Thanks Steve Hydonus Title: Re: noelle Post by: SI on May 14, 2016 04:06 am (http://www.self-realization.us/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/spbots.png) you could go to utrace or similar to find out where these IP's are from, doesn't always tell you where the actual user is though. Or just google the IP's, some are probably "good" bots from known search engine companies just indexing the site. Could be someone is watching the site and trying to obtain a name/password from one of us when we log in, that's why I don't use my admin account unless I need to. Title: Re: noelle Post by: b on May 14, 2016 10:32 am SI, so you agree that these guests are mostly bots? I can't imagine who else these visitors would be, other than friends of Steve (why don't they log in and say hi?). For all I know he may have many friends checking in with him here. I don't know. But my guess is that they are bots as I don't know where else this traffic would be coming from. What do you think? Steve, for the handful of people who talk and interact here, I don't think it matters a lot one way or the other if you move the site. It is totally up to you, period. I'll help you if you decide to move but that is totally up to you to decide and I think it is pretty arbitrary for such a small group as there is here. But please keep in mind what I have said in another thread. I'm skeptical if your current host will hand over your database to be moved somewhere else. Do you have a c-panel? If you do you can try to access you database from there. Perhaps ask SI to do it or I will do it. Otherwise, you can simply ask SMFforFree directly if you can move the site. I do not know what their terms are. If they will not turn over your database, there is no use in thinking about moving the site. |
