Title: Brother Ishtananda--Does God Exist?- A talk by Brother Ishtananda Post by: Jitendra Hydonus on Aug 25, 2013 05:02 pm Meditations are a useful process -- where we take our attention away from my emotions and thoughts and the world. The ocean and the waves are not separate in the same way our soul conscious is not separate from God. So try to relax and get away from the emotions and thoughts. Just be in pure Divine Awareness.
Consider, Yogananda's Cosmic Chant, "Wave of the Sea"... "I am the bubble make me the sea. Wave of the sea, disolve in the sea....I am the bubble make me the sea... so do thou my lord." Jesus said, "Is it not written in your laws, 'Ye are gods?'" -- but because we seem to readily accept all that is "outside" as reality, we're not able to perceive the real reality. Proving God exists is not easy, so I decided to go to Google. There are about 7,000 hits for proof of his existence, and over 14 thousand hits that he God does not exist! If God were to come on the internet and TV and the radio and say 'I exist, I am Lord, thy God. I exist.' Would people believe it? They would probably think it was some kind of political Republican right-wing trick. The Bible says that God is love, but there's also a lot of hatred in the world Does our experience of God's presence really prove his existence ? -- The personal stories are what are predominant in our consciousness... ○more later...... Title: Re: Brother Ishtananda--Does God Exist?- A talk by Brother Ishtananda Post by: Jitendra Hydonus on Aug 27, 2013 06:59 am There is a lot of ugliness and disharmony in the world. What about the judgement and wrath of God ? If we could come up with another word except the 'G' word -- The Absolute Truth or the Supreme Self might work better. The Eternal Blissful Awareness. If we could accept this concept of God we might be better off.
Does your experience of God really prove the existence of a God? People have all different kinds of experiences about reality. Paramahansa Yogananda was in Mexico. He was looking at a lake and observing how beautiful it was. He received the intuition that the man standing next to him had a different perception of it and he asked the man: "What do you think?" The man was an engineer and replied: "I think if the lake was drained we could make better use of the land." Sri Yukteswar tapped Yogananda on the chest and he had an experience of cosmic consciousness for weeks after. This type of ever-new Joy convinces every cell of our being. The proof of God cannot be proven by the mind. The mind has to be still. We cannot think our selves into that consciousness. You must meditate and create an environment of inner stillness. Title: Re: Brother Ishtananda--Does God Exist?- A talk by Brother Ishtananda Post by: Rod Sterling on Mar 29, 2014 07:17 pm I think the destiny of all men is not to sit in the rubble of their own making but to reach out for an ultimate perfection which is to be had. At the moment, it is a dream. But as of the moment we clasp hands with our neighbor, we build the first span to bridge the gap between the young and the old. At this hour, it’s a wish. But we have it within our power to make it a reality. If you want to prove that God is not dead, first prove that man is alive.
Title: Re: Brother Ishtananda--Does God Exist?- A talk by Brother Ishtananda Post by: brock on Mar 29, 2014 11:10 pm I think the question is really posed in a simplistic way.
For me, the better questions to ask are in regard to what we mean by that word and how the word is interpreted from person to person and one time period to another. On further analysis we find that the word God is sort of a catch all for a number of different ideas. Sort of like "country music". We do know one thing - the word itself, God, exists. So the thing to do, besides your spiritual practices, is to try to trace back how the word might have originated and what it must have been referring to. What experience of human beings led to the introduction of that word into the language? An interesting thing to do is to look at etymology. Etymology is the history of a word and how it evolves over time. I have linked to an online etymology dictionary entry for the word God. http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=god&allowed_in_frame=0 Title: Sri Yukteswar suggests a different kind of experiment. Post by: brock on Mar 30, 2014 12:25 am "So you have inexplicably failed to isolate the Supreme Power in your test tubes! I recommend a new experiment: examine your thoughts unremittingly for twenty-four hours. Then wonder no longer at God's absence."
Maybe this advice is the best thing we can offer ourselves and our atheist friends for answering this problem? Title: Re: Brother Ishtananda--Does God Exist?- A talk by Brother Ishtananda Post by: SpiritImage on Mar 30, 2014 09:22 pm I believe science will never isolate power in that sense. Unless the Supreme Power itself allows it. I also believe Sri Yukteswar is absolutely correct. I wish I could meditate 24 hours non-stop. I have a very tough time being able to concentrate in meditation for longer than an hour at a time. Practice makes perfect. |
