Title: Bhaktananda: Things to practice in meditation. Post by: Jitendra Hydonus on Jan 10, 2012 04:00 am BB 46 Bhaktananda Improving Meditations mid 1980’s
It is easy to go through the motions – we have to really put or hearts into it. A key is to love all. If you do not, you won’t make spiritual progress. Many read the lessons – few apply them. Concentrate Rivet the attention, let nothing distract you. You need that kind of grip. Energize – feel the energy Hong Sau – watch the breath Prayer – from the heart, visualize God’s light Chant – whole attention on visualizing the thoughts before the words God is the target there should be no other thought. Our concentration must be very keen. Get hold of the mind at once when you start the meditation. It may take five minutes at the start of the meditation. All other thoughts must go. Talk to the mind. Start off your meditation with prayer and chanting, with “gentle ‘straining’ concentration”, 100% effort, no other thoughts – keen concentration. Then as you start to do the techniques, slack off, since the concentration will already be there. In Stillness – keep putting thoughts of work out, even for an hour! 45 minutes to an hours – this is how union is attained. Master said: “Sit a long time in the silence” after techniques. Throw the thoughts out. Some yogi’s do it five hours in India. Then devotion from the heart. Parts of meditation for a three hour session: Prayer, Energize, Maha Mudra, chanting: 30 minutes Hong Sau, OM, Kriya: 70 minutes Silence: 40 minutes Devotion, pray for others: 15 minutes Prayer and study the lessons: 25 minutes Sleepiness in meditation: the number one thing is to get enough sleep – 6-7 hours is enough. Among the tips here Brother mentions Maha Mudra. Many people I meet are unable to set in meditation for long periods because of back problems. What a wonderful way to stretch and strengthen the spine while bringing spiritual energy up through the spine. With the help of spiritual exercises like this I still have a pliable spine and can sit in meditation many hours. I can feel that stretch in the lower spine whenever doing the Maha Mudra. Thank-You.
