Title: The twelfth house
Post by: Lady Urania on May 19, 2009 09:21 pm
Since some folks have some twelfth house planets like myself, and the forum itself has pluto in there conjunct the ascendant, I thought I would write a bit on the twelfth house in a natal chart:

The twelfth house originally had a bad rap for being the house of prisons, mental institutions, basically for the mad. It still holds true here, however, later it involved to something more truer, the house of 'self-undoing' and where one confronts maya.

The twelfth house is the house per transits, where all things will complete and end before they cross over the ascendant. When the sun crosses over the ascendant, its like a different form of 'birthday' in the chart, for the individidul, for example. Prior to this, when the sun coasts thru the twelfth house, it will 'undo' what it must do before it crosses this threshold and begin a new 'sun' for the individual on their path.

Pisces and Neptune are the rulers of this house so this is the house of dreaming, and also where we confront maya and the veil. Maya does her play before our eyes and where the 'madness' can come forth is when all the opposites go into one, and become nondual. Its something that spiritually we're always striving for, to see the oneness of all things. However, this is also what can create the madness to see how all things are of one, and become very confusing for the individual and this is another reason for the difficulty of the house. But its mainly a chore if one is holding on tightly to their ego. Since the ego resides most strongly in the first house, house of self, prior to this transit, the planet moves into the self-undoing house, and for good reason, it is so we dont hinge onto our ego more strongly, but less. That is the reason for the chart layout the way it does. If we can experience the transits from the 12th to the 1st in the proper way, we can 'undo' our egos, moreso than solidify them, and undo the illusion of duality to boot.

i think what interests me about your chart is that Mars-that energy to help-works well with what flows out from the past (your nadir and 12th house). There are karmic gifts from this angle to Venus and the nadir. Yet somhow communication holds a inhibited consequence due to the angle to Mars from Mercury. Do you ever get the feeling of missing opportunites that were handed to you because of hidden problems that are difficult to communicate? Yet the opportunity to be a part of a larger whole with the outside world (Mars to Midheaven) can help rectify this subconscious block.

Hi steve, missed opportunities? Ive never thought it much that way. But I can see how that could occur wanting to express something (mars square mercury) but maybe not knowing how to do it properly. I usually can do it well (thats where my trine with jup/uranus works), say in groups, im not group-shy by any means and for some reason folks listen to me tho I wonder sometimes, why, lol. And that might be where mars comes in, leaves me with some uncertainty.

It seems you also have a sextile to the Midheaven from Mars. This gives the opportunity to work out your 'uncertainty' as you put it (Mars square Mercury involving the 12th house). This uncertainty can be resolved through other helpful transits and  natal configurations. You know i have a Mercury square Mars in my chart also. So i have had to learn a lot about the communication process myself. i think it also gives a sharp wit and keen quick perception when adjusted to it's difficulties. It takes one to know one as the saying goes... It's funny thing about duality you know. The sqaure can make you learn and help you (though it can be percieved as difficult if we aren't trying to learn)while the sextile can also give the opportunity to abuse those opportunites. Ellen i enjoy your Astrology chitter chatter. Sometimes i have a hard time finding your chart tho, so i identified it until you/we put a natal chart in the 'natal chart' category. Is that O.K.?

Yeah thats fine, move it to where you wish and appreciate the input. I forgot you had mars square mercury as well, another odd similarlity in our charts.
