Steve, I agree that maybe it would be better to leave those medieval populations to their medieval business, but in this instance they are jeopardizing willingly international transportation through the Strait of Hormuz, leading to the Strait of Suez. Cargo ships now will mostly choose the Cape of Good Hope route. This means that we, in Europe, are going to pay more for some goods, much more for oil products, in a place where the cost of life is already very high.
So, it would be in the direct interest of the Western world and its citizens, me included, to fight and conquer the Houthis, who have to all effects declared war to America and Europe. They are sinking ships there, with drones and missiles.
Afterwards, we should not do like America which conquered Afghanistan, to relinquish it afterward to the same Talibans, after having spent useless trillions.
We should conquer Yemen and govern it directly, annexing it to America or Europe for example.
America should have done it with Afghanistan and Irak, making them the 51st and 52nd states respectively, since it was a legitimate victory.
Lucca we have enough problems here in the United States attempting to govern people that want to topple the government and prop up an unelected dictator as well as split off and start their own country in the south. Can you imagine attempting to govern people in Afghanistan and Iraq? It is due to colonialism that we depend on any commerace at all in that part of the world. No wonder people hate us there! Nice to share views though: Thanks
