Unless there is moisture, the seed will not grow if it is in the desert. It is the moisture of compassion that causes the shell of ego to break and the tree to grow.

If the left hand hurts the right hand will sooth it. Compassion is seeing the pain and happiness in others as your own. Just as a seed contains a huge forest tree; the vast kingdom of God is within us.
